Is it bad to tell lies?

Objectives:
Students should be able to express concern and confirm how something seems to them or others in the matter.
Introduction:
A “white lie” is often
to be tactful or polite. In what kinds of situations might someone tell a
“white lie”? Would you ever call someone on telling a while lie?
Task 1
Listening:
Students are given a mind map in which they have to predict the
conversation they will listen to.
Listen to a conversation between Tania and Tom. What do both think about
telling lies? Students discuss the answer.
Task 2
Student read the
article: The truth about lying: it’s
the hands that betray you, not the eyes and find the following:
A myth…
3 ways to prove someone is lying…
3 How lies were discovered…
Task 3
Students ask each other
these questions: (pairs)
1. Do you think most people post things on social
networks that are untrue?
2. Why is it easier to lie online than in person?
3. Are men or women more likely to lie? Why?
4. How can you tell if someone is lying?
5. What is the biggest lie people tell face to face?
Task 4
Teacher and students have a debate to give conclusions to the topic.
Despite the short time I had for this class. The result was great. Students were eagerly participating. Telling lies is a topic everyone has an opinion about.
The material provided them with tools to produce and ask for more.
There were some issues with the listening. Students had trouble with a couple of vocabulary words. I have told them that they do not have to feel frustrated for not understanding everything because that is something they will always face. They need to be able to understand the general idea.
